Details
Semicarbazide is a urea derivative in which one amide group of urea is replaced by hydrazine residue. It is used in preparing pharmaceuticals including nitrofuran antibacterials (furazolidone, nitrofurazone, nitrofurantoin) and related compounds. It is used as a derivatization reagent for aldehydes and ketones. It produces crystalline compounds with characteristic melting points with aldehydes and ketones and thus used as a derivation reagent. It is used as a solvent to separate hormones and essential oils.
